Concord Point Light is a lighthouse that was constructed in 1827 by John Donahoo, who built 13 lighthouses in total, seven of which still stand. It is the Northern-most lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay, and is situated in Havre de Grace, Maryland. It overlooks the point where the Susquehanna River flows into the Chesapeake Bay. It was established to warn ships away from the rough currents near the mouth of the Susquehanna River. Built with Port Deposit granite, the tower’s 30-foot walls are 3 feet thick at the base and 18 inches at the top. An 8-rung spiral ladder made of granite leads up to the lantern room, and originally was lit with nine whale oil lamps with 16-inch tin reflectors, although since 1983 it has had a Fifth-order Fresnel lens. In 1975, the lighthouse was decommissioned by the Coast Guard, and in 1976 it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This painting is of the lighthouse on a November morning, from a north-facing vantage point.
