Hunsecker's Mill Covered Bridge | Murray Brandon Art | Watercolor Art

The Hunsecker’s Mill Bridge is a covered bridge in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. Spanning the Conestoga River between Manheim and Upper Leacock Townships, the bridge is 180 feet long and 15 feet in width and has a single span, wooden, double Burr arch trusses design. The overhead clearance is 13 feet 10 inches, and the bridge traffic is mainly vehicular. Originally built in 1848 by Joseph Russell, it has been swept away twice due to flooding. The first occasion was in 1869 and the second was in 1972 due to Hurricane Agnes, in which the bridge was lifted off its abutments and carried downstream. Following both of these events, the bridge was reconstructed. It is not on the National Register of Historic Places, yet is the longest single span covered bridge of the 29 within Lancaster County. This watercolor painting by Murray Brandon is of Hunsecker’s Mill Bridge in wintertime after snowfall.
